CITY HYDRANT USE POLICY
WATER HYDRANT USE RULES
In August 2018, The City of Grandville established a policy for the use of its fire hydrants.

In order to protect the city water supply from possible contamination, to prevent damage and/or loss to city property and align city practices with Code of Ordinance stipulations, the city will no longer allow access to water hydrants by any individual other than city authorized personnel.  Authorized users include the Fire Department, the Department of Public Works and Clean Water Plant or their designees.

  • Use of a city hydrant for pool fills, long term watering of flower beds, dust control on commercial properties, etc. will no longer be allowed.
Contractors who wish to fill a portable tank from the hydrant behind the DPW building may do so by purchasing a permit at City Hall for $25.00. Contractors will be charged the current commodity water charge per 1000 gallons of water.
  • Contractors who need access to water at construction sites may do so by purchasing a permit at City Hall for $200.00. DPW will place a backflow device and meter at the construction site for contractor use. Contractors will be charged the current commodity water charge per 1000 gallons of water.
