In some cases, the Judge may order a presentence investigation to
be conducted prior to sentencing. You will be referred to the
Probation Department for this investigation.
You will be given or mailed a packet of forms which you must fill
out in entirety BEFORE you meet with your Probation Officer.
You may also be required to provide other documentation such as a
Driver’s License, Michigan I.D. card, Social Security Card,
Diploma(s), Military discharge papers, to name a few.
The purpose of a presentence investigation is to provide the
Judge with additional information about you, your offense and to
make sentencing recommendations so that the Judge may be more
informed at sentencing. Your cooperation during this process will be
reflected in the presentence report.
