Our Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) program is a major component of our department,
responding to over a thousand requests for service each year. We
provide medical first response services supported by private,
paramedic ambulance services that provide the advanced care and
transport to the hospital.
We have three units licensed to respond to medical emergencies,
all of which are equipped with the most modern equipment including
automatic, external defibrillators, (AEDs). At least one of these
units is staffed 24/7/365, generally by one of our full-time
personnel. Our full-time personnel are supported by 14 of our
paid-on-call staff who also maintain EMS licenses. Our average
response time to a life threatening emergency is three minutes or
less.
Our department is also recognized by the Michigan Department of
Consumer and Industry Services as an approved training site for EMS
personnel. All of our full time EMS licensed personnel maintain
additional licenses and/or certificates that exceed the minimum
requirements and dedicate several hours each month to continuing
education.
We strive to provide the highest quality of first response
medical care to our citizens and visitors and are very proud of our
accomplishments. Recently our EMS program and one of our personnel
were recognized by the American Heart Association during American
Heartsaver day at the state capital.
