CITY OF GRANDVILLE

REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2011

 

The Grandville City Council Regular Meeting of February 28, 2011 was called to order by Mayor James Buck at 7:00 pm.

 

Present were Council Members Randal Gelderloos, Steve Maas, Joshua Meringa, Carole Pettijohn, Dick Richards, and Mayor James Buck.  Absent:  Council Members Steve Kauffman.

 

Also attending:  Matt Butts, Assistant City Manager; Tammy Hopman, Finance Director/Treasurer; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; Mike May, Fire Chief; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo, Police Chief; and Dan Steere, Deputy Police Chief.

 

Council Member Pettijohn gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to approve the February 28, 2011 agenda as presented. The motion was APPROVED.

 

Motion made by Council Member Richards, supported by Council Member Meringa, to waive the reading of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 14, 2011 and approve as presented.  The motion was APPROVED.

 

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Richards, that bills for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 totaling $446,674.32 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and authorize the Treasurer to pay the same. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by a roll call vote.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Thomas Kosmak, 3223 Chestnut, urged City Council to practice extreme fiscal responsibility.  City Manager Krombeen responded to some of Mr. Kosmak’s questions and indicated he could look at what is being done on the budget by contacting the Finance Director or attending the March 7 Work Session.

 

ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS

Finance Director Hopman presented a FY 2010-2011 budget amendment to the General Fund.  Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Meringa, to approve Resolution No. 2951, amending the FY 2010-2011 budget.  The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

 

CONSENT AGENDA

Items presented under the Consent Agenda included:

1.      Reports:     Police (4th Quarter), Investments (January)

2.      Proclamations:       Certified Government Financial Manager Month (March 2011)

National Ambucs Month (February 2011)

 

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Meringa, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.  The motion was APPROVED.

 

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Assistant City Manager Butts indicated that an application was received from Ellison Foundation for special liquor license for March 12, 2011.  The mixed martial arts event will be held at the Rivertown Sports Complex, 2605 Sanford SW to benefit the non-profit Ellison Mixed Martial Arts Foundation.  The applicant, Paul Simpson, was in attendance. Motion made by Council Member Richards, supported by Council Member Pettijohn, to authorize the Police Chief to approve the March 12, 2011 special liquor license application.  The motion was APPROVED by a 5-1 roll call vote (Yes:  Buck, Gelderloos, Meringa, Pettijohn and Richards.  No:  Maas.  Absent:  Kauffman).

 

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to excuse the absence of Council Member Kauffman.  The motion was APPROVED.

 

COUNCIL COMMENTS

·         Thank you to Fire Department and Chief May for providing help when needed

·         Congratulations to Council Member Meringa’s appointment to the MML Governance Committee

 

ADJOURNMENT

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Pettijohn, to adjourn at 7:42 pm.  The motion was APPROVED.
