CITY OF GRANDVILLE

REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2009

 

The Grandville City Council Regular Meeting of February 23, 2009 was called to order by Mayor James Buck at 7:00 pm.

 

The Acting Clerk called the roll.  Present were Council Members Ken Gates, Randal Gelderloos, Steve Maas, Joshua Meringa, Carole Pettijohn, Dick Richards, and Mayor James Buck.   Absent:  None.

 

Also attending:  Tammy Aue, Treasurer/Finance Director; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Kenneth Krombeen, City Manager; Marci Poley, Acting Clerk; Dennis Santo, Police Chief; and Jim Uyl, Commercial Assessor.

 

Rev. Tony Meyer, Ivanrest Christian Reformed Church gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Gates, to approve the February 23, 2009 agenda as presented. The motion was APPROVED.

 

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Maas, to waive the reading of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of  February 9, 2009 and to approve as presented. The motion was APPROVED.

 

Motion made by Council Member Gates, supported by Council Member Pettijohn, that Fiscal Year 2008-2009 bills totaling $425,472.06 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and authorize the Treasurer to pay the same. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

CONSENT AGENDA

Items presented under the Consent Agenda included:

  1. Reports:  Police (Quarterly), CWP (January), Investment’s (January)

  2. Minutes: Historical Commission (January 19)

Library Board (January 22)

Planning Commission (February 4)

Downtown Development Authority (February 12)

  1. Set Council Budget Work Session:  Monday, March 16 @ 6:00 p.m.

  2. Permit:  4th of July Fireworks

  3. Miscellaneous Purchase Orders and Requests:

a.   Police: Radar Units – Kustom Signals Inc.- $5,200.00

 

Council Member Gelderloos noted that the rain date on the certificate of insurance for the 4th of July Fireworks Permit was incorrect and the name on the permit was different then the name on the insurance certificate.

 

Motion made by Council Member Maas, supported by Council Member Gates, to approve the Consent Agenda with the corrections to be made on the 4th of July Fireworks permit in the best interest of the City.  The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

 

CITY MANAGER’S

City Manager Krombeen explained that negotiations of the Jail Per Diem and Arrest Processing Fees have been completed. The result is that the fees to the cities of Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood, Walker, and Wyoming will be reduced by 25%. The Jail Per Diem rate would be reduced from $47.80 to $35.85 and the Arrest Processing fee from $20.08 to $15.06. There is no set term for the agreements but provision for unilateral termination by any party by 90 day notice prior to the start of the County’s fiscal year. Motion made by Council Member Gates, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to enter into the Jail Per Diem Fee and Arrest Processing Fee agreements substantially in the form submitted. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion made by Council Member Richards, supported by Council Member Gates, to adjourn at 7:35 pm. The motion was APPROVED.
