CITY OF GRANDVILLE

REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2008

The Grandville City Council Regular Meeting of February 25, 2008 was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Carole Pettijohn at 7:00 pm.

The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members Randal Gelderloos, Joshua Meringa, Carole Pettijohn, and Stan Ponstein. Absent: Council Member Ken Gates, Steve Maas and Mayor James Buck.

Also attending: Tammy Aue, Treasurer/Finance Director; Matthew Butts, Assistant to the City Manager; Ron Carr, DPW Director; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo, Deputy Police Chief; Vern Snyder, Police Chief; and Harvey Veldhouse, Fire Chief.

Rev. Tony Meyer, Ivanrest Chr. Ref. Church, gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to approve the February 25, 2008 agenda as provided. The motion was APPROVED.

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to waive the reading of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 11, 2008 and to approve as presented. The motion was APPROVED.

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, that Fiscal Year 2007-2008 bills totaling $339,545.18 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and authorize the Treasurer to pay the same. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

Motion made by Council Member Ponstein, supported by Council Member Meringa, to approve the Consent Agenda in the best interest of the City as presented. The motion was APPROVED.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

City Manager Krombeen asked for confirmation of his decision to promote Dennis Santo to Police Chief. Motion by Council Member Ponstein, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, confirming the City Manager’s decision to promote Dennis Santo to Police Chief effective May 1, 2008. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

City Manager Krombeen reviewed the background of the Liaison Officer in the Public Schools. Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to authorize a Police School Liaison Officer Agreement between the City of Grandville and the Grandville Public Schools effective July 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2011. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

Motion made by Council Member Ponstein, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to excuse Council Members Gates, Maas, and Mayor Buck. The motion was APPROVED.

RECESS TO EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos, to recess at 7:25 pm to Executive Session for purposes of discussion of pending litigation. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

RETURN TO REGULAR SESSION

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Gelderloos to reconvene to regular session at 8:52 pm. The motion was APPROVED.

Motion made by Council Member Ponstein, supported by Council Member Meringa to authorize up to $4,500 for Laureen Birdsall Property Tax Consulting Service for involvement in commercial tax appeals. The motion was unanimously APPROVED by roll call vote.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion made by Council Member Meringa, supported by Council Member Ponstein, to adjourn at 8:55 pm. The motion was APPROVED.
