GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING

MAY 17, 2006

The Special Meeting of the Grandville City Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on May 17, 2006 at 5:03 p.m.

The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, Mayor Buck. Absent: None

Also present: Ron Carr, DPW Director; Debby Descheneau, Personnel Assistant; Dan Johnson, Assistant City Manager; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; and Mary Meines, City Clerk.

APPOINTMENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBER

The City Attorney explained that the Council Member appointment needs to be made by four votes from the Council. He indicated that the Charter does not state the procedure to be used. The Council determined to rank the candidates with each Council Member giving their top choice four points, second choice three points, etc. The two candidates that receive the lowest total points will be eliminated. From the remaining two candidates Council will then cast votes for their top choice.

Council Members marked and signed ballots ranking the applicants. City Attorney and City Clerk tabulated the ballots. Results of the ranking were:

Buck – Gelderloos, Blitchok, Poll, Lovell

Gates – Poll, Blitchok, Lovell, Gelderloos

Maas – Blitchok, Poll, Lovell, Gelderloos

Pettijohn – Gelderloos, Blitchok, Poll, Lovell

Ponstein – Gelderloos, Poll, Blitchok, Lovell

Sierawski – Gelderloos, Blitchok, Poll, Lovell

Gerald Lovell and Robert Poll were eliminated in the ranking vote.

Council Members marked and signed ballots indicating their choice for the appointment. City Council votes were:

Buck – Gelderloos

Gates – Blitchok

Maas – Blitchok
