GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING

MAY 15, 2006

The Special Meeting of the Grandville City Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on May 15, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.

The City Clerk called the roll.  Present were Council Members Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, Mayor Buck.  Absent:   None

Also present:  Ron Carr, DPW Director; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo, Deputy Police Chief; and Vern Snyder, Police Chief.

Mayor Buck explained the Charter requires a Council vacancy to be filled within 30 days and expressed appreciation to the applicants for being available to participate in the process.  He indicated Dennis Murphy and Jeff Kremers have withdrawn, and that Terry Beemer is in Africa on vacation.

Council Member Maas disclosed Terry Beemer is his uncle.

The following applicants were each allowed five minutes to address the Council.

Rakipi, Remi                             3349 Barrett Ave. SW

Council Members were instructed to mark their top four choices on the ballot and to sign the ballot.  The City Attorney and City Clerk tabulated the ballots. Council Member votes were:

-        Mayor Buck – Blitchok, Gelderloos, Lovell, Poll

-        Ken Gates – Blitchok, Burns, Lovell, Poll

-        Steven Maas – Blitchok, Burns, Poll, Rakipi

-        Carole Pettijohn – Blitchok, Gelderloos, Poll, Rakipi

-        Stanley Ponstein – Baker, Blitchok, Gelderloos, Lovell

-        Joe Sierawski – Blitchok, Gelderloos, Johnson, Poll

Robert Blitchok, Randal Gelderloos, Gerald Lovell, and Bob Poll were asked to return for a second interview on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENT

City Manager Krombeen responded to Mr. Bouma’s question re: dispatch.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion made by Council Member Pettijohn, supported by Council Member Maas, to adjourn at 7:45 p.m.  The motion was APPROVED.
