City Council Minutes
The Regular Meeting of the Grandville City
Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on November 8, 2004
at 7:01 p.m.
The City Clerk called the roll.
Present were Council Members Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole
Pettijohn, Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, and Mayor James Buck.
Absent: Council Member
Robert DeWitt.
Also attending: Dan Johnson, Assistant City
Manager; Michael Chesher, DPW Director; Thomas Guinther,
Treasurer/Finance Director; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken
Krombeen, City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; and Dennis Santo,
Deputy Police Chief
Rev. Tony Meyer, Ivanrest Chr. Ref. Church,
gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Maas, CARRIED, to approve the November 8, 2004
agenda as presented.
Motion by Council Member Sierawski, and
seconded by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to waive the reading
of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 25, 2004 and
approve as presented.
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, that
Fiscal Year 2004-2005 bills totaling $234,219.70 presented by the
City Manager, be allowed, and authorize the Treasurer to pay the
same.
PUBLIC
COMMENT
Bill Schrader from the Neal Fonger Post #179
introduced Sherry Thompson from Central Elementary.
The 5th grade class from Central Elementary is
involved in the Stars and Stripes Program and will participate in
the Veteran’s Day Ceremonies in Grandville on November 11, 2004 at
10:00 a.m. at the corner of Wilson and 28th Street. Josh
De Young, Kendall Hart and Daniel Van Huizen, students at Central
Elementary, gave the history of Veterans Day.
ORDINANCES
AND RESOLUTIONS
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to
adopt Resolution No. 2659, Requesting the Revocation of Act 198 Tax
Abatement Certificates Numbers 96-728 and 98-273 for J.L. French.
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded
by Council Member Gates, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote to
approve Resolution No. 2660, a resolution to adopt MERS Benefit
Program “E” Increase to be Effective on Adjustment Date January
1, 2005. The increase
will be the Traditional E for all retirees and beneficiaries.

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded
by Council Member Gates, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to
approve the Consent Agenda as presented in the best interest of the
City.

MANAGER’S REPORT
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to excuse the absence of
Council Member DeWitt.
COMMENTS
Comments were made regarding the Christmas
Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 6, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. and changing
the City Council meeting from December 27, 2004 to December 20,
2004.
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded
by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to adjourn at 7:36 p.m.
