City Council Minutes
The Regular Meeting of the Grandville City
Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on July 12, 2004 at
7:00 p.m.
The City Clerk called the roll.
Present were Council Members Robert DeWitt, Ken Gates, Steve
Maas, Carole Pettijohn , Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, and Mayor
James Buck. Absent:
None
Also attending: Eugene Alkema, City Attorney;
Tom Guinther, Treasurer/Finance Director; Dan Johnson, Assistant
City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dick Meyers, WWTP
Superintendent; Vern Snyder, Police Chief; and Marci Poley,
Receptionist.
Rev. Harvey Heneveld, Olivet Reformed Church,
gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded
by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to approve the July 12, 2004
agenda as presented.
Motion by Council Member DeWitt, and seconded
by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to waive the reading of the
minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 28, 2004 and approve as
presented.
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, that
Fiscal Year 2003-2004 bills totaling $285,306.58 presented by the
City Manager, be allowed, and authorize the Treasurer to pay the
same.
Motion by Council Member DeWitt, and seconded
by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote,
that Fiscal Year 2004-2005 bills totaling $13,867.71 presented by
the City Manager, be allowed, and authorize the Treasurer to pay the
same.
PUBLIC
COMMENT
Barb Meyer and Judd VanderWall made a
presentation on behalf of the Friends of the Kent County Wildlife
Park. They discussed the
three “E’s” (economy, education and exhibits) of the new
Wildlife Park.

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded
by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote,
to approve the Consent Agenda as presented in the best interest of
the City.
CITY
MANAGER’S REPORT
Finance Director/Treasurer Guinther and
Patrice Vrona, Library Director, presented three quality levels of
carpet samples to replace the carpet at the library.
They asked Council which carpet they would like specified in
the bid process.
COMMENTS
Thank you was extended to everyone that had a
part in the 4th of July Celebration making it a huge
success. Council Member
DeWitt asked that the City Manager report back within 30 days on the
Ottawa County wastewater negotiations.
Council Member Ponstein asked for a report on election
consolidation of the school elections and how they will be handled
in the future.

Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded
by Council Member Maas, CARRIED, to adjourn at 8:01 p.m.
