PROCEEDINGS OF THE
GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL
The Regular Meeting of the Grandville City Council was called to
order by Mayor James Buck on February 9, 2004 at 7:03 p.m.
The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members
Robert DeWitt, Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Stan
Ponstein, and Mayor James Buck. Absent: Council Member Joe Sierawski.
Also attending: Michael Chesher, DPW Director; Dan Johnson,
Assistant City Manager; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen,
City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo (arrived at 7:30
p.m.), Deputy Police Chief; Vern Snyder, Police Chief.
Rev. John Kaufield, Grandville Bible Church, gave the invocation;
and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member De
Witt, CARRIED, to approve the February 9, 2004 agenda as presented.
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member
Pettijohn, CARRIED, to waive the reading of the minutes of the
Regular Meeting of January 26, 2004 and approve as presented.
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member
Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, that Fiscal Year
2003-2004 bills totaling $298,392.77, presented by the City Manager,
be allowed and authorize the Treasurer to pay the same.

CONSENT AGENDA
- Reports: Police (2003 4th quarter), Treasurer’s (Jan.)
- Proclamation: National Ambucs Month
- Miscellaneous Purchase Orders and Requests
- Water: Tank Demolition – Melching, Inc. - $13,000.00
Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member
Gates, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to approve the Consent
Agenda as presented in the best interest of the City.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
City Manager Krombeen presented a request for authorization to
submit new projects under the Kent County Community Development
Block Grant Program. Specific criteria must be met in order for
projects to qualify. Projects include: (1) repaving/ widening of
Buck Creek Trail between 34th Street and Barrett Avenue (including
Mill Race Park); (2) repainting of the 28th Street pedestrian
overpass near Ivanrest Avenue; (3) Buck Creek flood conveyance
improvements including removal of debris; and (4) Senior Center
garage structure to house the van. Mr. Krombeen reviewed the
projects and the cost estimates. Council Member Pettijohn asked to
include the Senior Center kitchen project. Motion by Council Member
Maas, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED unanimously by
roll call vote, to approve the proposed projects as discussed
including the Senior Center kitchen project to be submitted under
the Community Development Block Grant Program for 2004-2005.
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member De
Witt, CARRIED, to excuse the absence of Council Member Sierawski.
COMMENTS
Comments were made regarding the Downtown Master Plan Visioning
Sessions and the Michigan State Women’s Bowling Association
Tournament at Fairlanes Recreation Center.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member
Maas, CARRIED, to adjourn at 7:32 p.m.
