City Council Minutes

PROCEEDINGS OF THE
GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL

The Regular Meeting of the Grandville City Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on December 22, 2003 at 7:01 p.m.

The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members Robert DeWitt, Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, and Mayor James Buck. Absent: None.

Also attending:

Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo (arrived at 7:20 p.m.), Deputy Police Chief; Vern Snyder (arrived at 7:06 p.m.), Police Chief.

Council Member Maas gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member DeWitt, CARRIED, to approve the December 22, 2003 agenda as presented.

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to waive the reading of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2003 and approve as presented.

Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member Sierawski, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, that bills totaling $813,281.63 for Fiscal Year 2003-2004 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and the Treasurer authorized to pay the same.

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Ponstein, CARRIED, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Recommendation for appointments to various boards and commissions were presented to City Council by staff. Council Member Sierawski requested the re-appointment of Ben Weykamp to the Park and Recreation Board be considered separately. Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote to approve the board and commission appointments as follows:

Discussion regarding the boards and commissions application process and the re-appointment of Ben Weykamp to the Park and Recreation Board. Brian Hass, applicant for the Park and Recreation Board, addressed Council and requested appointment to the Board. Motion by Council Member Gates, and seconded by Council Member DeWitt, CARRIED by a 6-1 roll call vote (Sierawski opposed) to re-appoint Ben Weykamp to the Park and Recreation Board for a 3-year term expiring 12/31/06.

COMMENTS

Comments were made regarding the City Holiday Party, budget work session dates, Revenue Sharing cuts, GVMC Quarterly Luncheon, GVMC Legislative Dinner, and the Strategic Planning Session date.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to adjourn at 7:32 p.m.
