City Council Minutes

PROCEEDINGS OF THE
GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL

The Regular Meeting of the Grandville City Council was called to order by Mayor James Buck on November 10, 2003 at 7:02 p.m.

The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members Robert DeWitt, Ken Gates, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Stan Ponstein, Joe Sierawski, and Mayor James Buck. Absent: None

Also attending:

Thomas Guinther, Treasurer/Finance Director; Randy Kraker, City Attorney; Ken Krombeen, City Manager; Mary Meines, City Clerk; Dennis Santo, Deputy Police Chief (arrived at 7:26 p.m.); and Vern Snyder, Police Chief.

Rev. Douglas Van Bronkhorst, First Church, gave the invocation; and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to approve the November 10, 2003 agenda as presented.

Motion by Council Member Sierawski, and seconded by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to waive the reading of the minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 27, 2003 and approve as presented.

Motion by Council Member DeWitt, and seconded by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, that bills totaling $393,022.72 for Fiscal Year 2003-2004 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and the Treasurer authorized to pay the same.

PUBLIC COMMENT

The Veteran’s Day Ceremony was highlighted by Bill Schrader, from the Neal Fonger American Legion Post No. 79. It will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at Wilson and 28th Street.

ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS

Motion by Council Member Sierawski, and seconded by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED, to remove from the table, the IFT Certificate for Auto Cast, Inc.

Motion by Council Member Ponstein, and seconded by Council Member Pettijohn, CARRIED by a 6-1 roll call vote (Yes: Gates, Maas, Pettijohn, Ponstein, Sierawski, and Buck. No: DeWitt), to approve Resolution No. 2607, granting a 10 year IFT Certificate to Auto Cast, Inc., 4565 Spartan Ind. Dr.

CONSENT AGENDA

  • Reports: EMS/Fire (Sept.), Treasurer’s (Oct.), WWTP (Oct.), Police (3rd quarter)
  • Minutes: DDA (Oct. 9)

Zoning Board of Appeals (Oct. 15)

Library Board (Oct. 23)

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.

COMMENTS

Comments were made regarding election turnout, the Grandville football team, the Revenue Sharing Conference on November 17, 2003 at 11:45 a.m., and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1, 2003.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Council Member Sierawski, and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to adjourn at 7:52 p.m.

SWEARING IN CEREMONY

The City Clerk swore into office the following:

Robert J. De Witt, Council Member

Carole G. Pettijohn, Council Member

Joseph Sierawski, Council Member

Mayor Buck called the meeting to order at 8:07 p.m.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Motion by Council Member Maas, and seconded by Council Member Pettijohn CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to adjourn to executive session at 8:10 p.m. for purposes of discussing pending litigation.
