City Council Minutes

Special session, March 17, 2003, in the Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor James Buck.

Present were Council Members Robert De Witt, Steve Maas, Carole Pettijohn, Joe Sierawski and Mayor Buck.

Absent: Council Members Ken Gates and Stan Ponstein

Staff present:
Tammy Butler, Assistant Finance Director
Tom Guinther, Treasurer/Finance Director
Ken Krombeen, City Manager
Mary Meines, City Clerk

Opening remarks from Mayor James Buck. City Manager Krombeen had no additional comments and turned the meeting over to Treasurer/Finance Director Guinther.

Treasurer/Finance Director Guinther indicated the budget requests from departments have been reviewed and are conservative. The City Engineer and DPW Director Chesher have gone through a process to rate the condition of the city streets and determined how much is needed in the future to maintain the current condition of the streets. Various options for acquiring the funds necessary to maintain the streets and to continue the current level of services were discussed. Mr. Guinther gave a presentation on the FY 2003-2004 Budget Summary and budget challenges City Council will be confronted with.

Further review of the proposed FY 2003-2004 is scheduled at the next work session on March 31, 2003 at 6:00 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
