City Council Minutes

PROCEEDINGS OF THE

GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL

2001-203 Regular session, September 24, 2001, in the Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Buck.

The City Clerk called the roll. Present were Council Members Robert De Witt, Kenneth Gates, Steve Maas, Scott Petersen, Carole Pettijohn and Joe Sierawski.

Absent: None.

Also present were City Manager Ken Krombeen, Assistant City Manager Dan Johnson and City Attorney Randall Kraker.

Other staff present:

Mike Chesher, Director of Public Works

Tom Guinther, Treasurer/Finance Director

Vern Snyder, Police Chief

Sharon Streelman, City Clerk

The invocation was given by Council Member Pettijohn and was followed by the pledge of allegiance.

Moved by Council Member Sierawski and seconded by Council Member Maas, CARRIED, to approve the September 24, 2001 agenda, as presented by the Manager.

Moved by Council Member Gates and seconded by Council Member Sierawski, CARRIED, to waive the reading of the minutes of the regular meeting of September 10, 2001, and approve as presented.

Moved by Council Member Gates and seconded by Council Member Sierawski, CARRIED, that bills totaling $162,310.16 as presented by the City Manager, be allowed and the Treasurer authorized to pay the same.

PUBLIC COMMENT

August Lenger of 4280 Redbush spoke to the issue of progress on the Police/Court building. He was concerned about completing the outside projects prior to winter.

City Manager Krombeen reported that the Police Department will be moving into their quarters by November 5.

ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS

    1. Moved by Council Member Gates and seconded by Council Member De Witt, CARRIED, to remove proposed Ordinance No. 204-AN from the table.

Moved by Council Member Gates and seconded by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to adopt Ordinance No. 204-AN, an Ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 204, the Zonong Ordinance of 1994, to rezone property at 3459 Ivanrest from RR Rural Residential to RM-3 Moderate Density Residential,

COUNCIL COMMUNICATIONS AND PETITIONS

Petitions were received and filed from property owners on Wentworth Drive relative to the speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Bruce Van Oss of 3595 Wentworth addressed the request for a reduced speed limit. The City Manager responded indicating that counts must be taken and a report will submitted with a recommendation. August Lenger of 4280 Redbush spoke about the need to retain the no parking status, even in the residential neighborhood.

  • Police: Laptop Computer – from CDW-G in the amount of $2,420.27
  • Fire: Thermal Imaging Camera – from Time Emergency in the amount of $16,800.
  • Streets: Liquid Calcium Chloride – from Liquid Calcium Chloride Sales, Inc. in the amount of $6,876.00

Moved by Council Member Maas and seconded by Council Member Sierawski, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to adopt the Consent Agenda of September 24, 2001.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

2001-206 Moved by Council Member Sierawski and seconded by Council Member Maas, CARRIED unanimously by roll call vote, to authorize the replacement of the Grandville Community Building roof from Allied Roofing & Siding Co., in the best interest of the City in the amount of $7,850.00.

CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Comments followed relative to flag displays, the peace pole, and the MML Conference.

City Attorney Kraker responded to Council interest in aid to the victims of terror in New York and Washington D.C.

D.P.W. Director Chesher reported on the leaf pickup and drop off program for this year.

Also, that two employees are involved in the snow plow contest in Colorado this week.

Moved by Council Member Maas and seconded by Council Member Gates, CARRIED, to adjourn at 7:45 p.m.
