PROCEEDINGS OF THE
GRANDVILLE CITY COUNCIL
2000-60 Special session, March 7, 2000,
in the Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor James Buck.
Present were Council Members Kenneth Gates, Steve Maas, Scott
Petersen, Carole Pettijohn, Joe Sierawski and Mayor James Buck.
Absent: Council Member Robert
De Witt. Also present was City Manager Ken Krombeen.
Other staff present:
Michael Chesher, Department of Public Works Director
Tom Guinther, Treasurer/Finance Director
Richard Meyers, Wastewater Superintendent
Vern Snyder, Police Chief
Sharon Streelman, City Clerk
Harvey Veldhouse, Fire Chief
Peter VerSluis, Judge 59th District Court
Moved by Council Member Maas and seconded by Council Member
Gates, CARRIED, to excuse the absence of Council Member De Witt.
STRATEGIC ISSUES REVIEW
City Manager Krombeen reviewed the highlights of the January 14,
2000 Strategic Planning Session. The seven strategic initiatives
were listed as follows:
- City Services
- Staffing
- Quality of Life
- Growth and Development
- Millage
- Technology
- Outside Government Relationships
The Manager asked that Council refer to these repeatedly
throughout the budgeting process.
DEPARTMENTAL CAPITAL PROJECT AND STAFFING PRESENTATIONS
Presentations were made relative to Capital Projects for the
current fiscal year and plans for proposals for the 2000-01 Fiscal
Year including staffing requests. These reports were as follows:
- Department of Public Works – Michael Chesher
- Court/Probation – Judge VerSluis
- Police Department – Chief Snyder
- Fire Department - Chief Veldhouse
- Wastewater Plant – Richard Meyers
Council Members comments and questions were addressed during the
presentations. The dates for the next budget sessions were
considered. Council was invited to give additional budget input to
either the City Manager or the Finance Director. Council Member
Sierawski talked about additional cooperative projects with the
Grandville Public Schools. Council Member Pettijohn requested
inquiry into a feasibility study relative to separating from Senior
Neighbors, Inc. and offering an independent senior citizen program.
