Boards and Commissions
Grandville is fortunate to have many residents and other
dedicated individuals take the time to serve on our various Boards
and Commissions. Listed below is more detailed information on every
board. If you are interested in serving on one of these boards,
please complete
this PDF application and send it to City Hall.
BOARD OF REVIEW conducts hearings on tax assessments, makes
decisions of fair valuation, advises the City Assessor, determines
exemptions in hardship cases and certifies the assessment role. The
Board of Review parallels requirements set forth in the Michigan
Complied Laws, Section 211.29 and the City Charter. The Board meets
in March at City Hall to review the assessment roll and to hear
complaints. A one-day session is held each July and December to
correct clerical errors.
BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS (BZA) hears and decides appeals to the
Zoning Ordinance in cases where there may be an unreasonable
hardship or unusual difficulty. The BZA was established in
accordance with Michigan State Law, Public Act No. 207 of 1921 and
the Grandville Zoning Ordinance. Meetings are held on the third
Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM at City Hall.
BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (BRA) assists in the
redevelopment of abandoned, undeveloped or underdeveloped properties
that are not being fully utilized due to environmental
contamination. The BRA was established in accordance with Michigan
State Law, Public Act No. 381 of 1996. Meeting dates are scheduled
as necessary.
BUSINESS RELATIONS COMMITTEE reviews applications for Industrial
Development Districts and Certificates. They recommend approval or
disapproval to the City Council. Meetings are scheduled as needed.
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (DDA) is responsible for the
planning and implementation of economic development, historic
preservation and prevention of deterioration in the downtown
business district. The DDA was established in accordance with
Michigan State Law, Public Act No. 197 of 1975. Meetings are held on
the second Thursday of the month at 8:00 AM at City Hall. For

HISTORICAL COMMISSION is active in maintaining the Museum, #10
School and all other historical archives of the City. They maintain
a display case in the entry of City Hall. Meetings are held on the
third Monday of the month at 7:00 PM at City Hall.
LIBRARY BOARD is an advisory board to the Grandville Library and
assists the Librarian in many projects. They promote projects
including the Library Festivals and Arts and Crafts events. Meetings
are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM at the
Grandville Library.
LOCAL OFFICERS COMPENSATION COMMITTEE (LOCC) is charged with
recommending salaries for all local elected officials. The LOCC was
established in accordance with Michigan State Law, Public Act No. 8
of 1972. The LOCC may meet in only odd number years and for a
limited number of days.
PARK AND RECREATION BOARD advises the City on the operation of
the park system, recreational programs, as well as park acquisition,
development and maintenance. Meetings are held on the third Thursday
of the month at 7:00 PM at the Department of Public Works.
PLANNING COMMISSION is responsible for developing and adopting a
Master Plan for land use within the City of Grandville, reviewing
development and subdivision proposals and making recommendations to
the City Council on zoning matters. The Planning Commission was
established in accordance with Michigan State Law, Public Act No.
285 of 1931 and the City Charter. Meetings are held on the first
Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at City Hall.
